Lincoln City Libraries Receives $30,000 Carnegie Corporation Grant

Lincoln City Libraries has announced it has received a $30,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The grant is part of Carnegie Libraries 250, a national initiative celebrating the enduring legacy of Carnegie-funded libraries across the United States.

Ryan Wieber, LCL Director, said the grant will be used to support activities and services at the Anderson and Bethany branches, as well as Bennett Martin Public Library.

“Andrew Carnegie-funded library buildings played a significant role in the history and development of Lincoln City Libraries, and we’re honored to receive this grant, which continues a partnership that began in 1902,” Wieber said.

Carnegie’s philanthropy helped establish five library buildings in Lincoln: the Central Library at 14th and N streets (1902); Havelock (1907); Northeast Branch (1909); University Place (1916); and College View (1916).

Three of the original five Carnegie library buildings still stand today:

  • The former Northeast Branch building is now part of Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, 2121 N. 27th St.
  • The former University Place location, 2820 N. 48th St., is home to a law firm.
  • The former College View library, 4880 Prescott Ave., is owned by Union Adventist University.
